Created for Rest
Reading: Genesis 2:1-3, Exodus 20:8-11
Devotional: God didn't need to rest after creation—He rested to establish a pattern for us. From the very beginning, rest was woven into the fabric of creation. Our bodies require a third of our lives in sleep, not because God lacked creativity in design, but because He intentionally built rhythm into our existence. The Sabbath command isn't arbitrary religious restriction; it's a loving Father protecting His children from self-destruction. When God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, He was declaring rest sacred. In our driven culture that celebrates busyness as virtue, remembering the Sabbath means acknowledging we're sheep to be called, not cattle to be driven. Rest isn't weakness—it's obedience to our Creator's design.
